Australians heading to the United States will soon no longer have to return a negative COVID-19 test before boarding their flight.

The nation's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Friday local time the measure will be scrapped within hours.

"This means that starting at 12:01AM ET on June 12, 2022, air passengers will not need to get tested and show the COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 prior to boarding a flight to the U.S." The CDC said the change is being made as the pandemic has now moved to a"new phase" but recommended travellers not board a flight if they are unwell.
