American singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers has mocked an Australian tennis great and once again led her adoring fans into a chorus of profanity against her “new best friend”.

Indie rock artist Phoebe Bridgers slammed Margaret Court to a sold out crowd at Melbourne’s Laneway Festival, only three days afterCourt is by far Australia’s greatest tennis player but her accolades have in recent times been overshadowed by controversial opinions she holds off the court about the LGBTIQ+ community.

“Anyone hear about my new best friend Margaret Court?” she asked the audience, with them cheering and applauding in response.Thousands of her predominantly young and female crowd chanted in unison when Bridgers asked them to once again chant “f--- Margaret Court”. Her supreme fitness earned her the nickname “the Aussie Amazon” as she won 1,180 of 1,287 matches, a record that Court insisted won’t be touched any time soon.

However, Court remains stoic in her strong beliefs and refuses to “change” or step back from her religious views.
