It’s not so great news for Australia’s best men’s player, Cameron Smith, who has crashed out of contention after a horror front nine in the final round of the US PGA Memorial tournament in Ohio.
Queensland’s world No.3 has posted two double bogeys to be six-over through his first nine holes and is now 10 shots of the pace set by Billy Horschel. Smith would have been hoping to challenge for another title heading into his final 18 holes, but it’s going to be a long back nine at this rate in Jack Nicklaus’ tournament.It’s been a fast start for Minjee Lee through the opening three holes and her lead has been extended through five shots after birdies on the first two holes.
When she woke this morning, that would have been exactly what she wanted just to calm any nerves that might have built up overnight. American Mina Harigae has failed to make any headway yet and Lee makes a knee-knocking par putt from four feet on the fourth to maintain that buffer. New Zealander Lydia Ko remains in third spot on the leaderboard.It promises to be a huge morning for Australian golf with the men’s world No.3 Cameron Smith chasing down another US PGA Tour victory in Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial event at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio.
