The US Men’s Soccer team faces an uphill, but by no means impossible, battle to victory
Folks across Southern California are pouring out to bars, restaurants, stadiums and other watch parties today, hoping that history will repeat itself as the plucky young American underdogs seek victory over seasoned Britain, perennial international football royalty indeed.
England is currently fifth in the rankings compiled by FIFA, soccer’s international governing body, while the U.S. is ranked 16th. The Three Lions are confidently cruising into the game following Monday’s 6-2 victory over Iran, while the US Men’s Team are arriving on the back of a 1-1 tie against Wales also on Monday.
Many local parties are organized by the American Outlaws, a nationwide support group for the U.S. men’s and women’s national soccer teams that lists the location of various chapters’ parties on its website. The LA Galaxy is a Los Angeles-based Major League Soccer team that also runs a training academy to help foster the next generation of star US soccer players.
