Offense continues to struggle in second half as Valpo pulls away for a 28-21 victory
In the second half of the University of San Diego’s Pioneer Football League opener Saturday at Valparaiso, ESPN3’s streaming announcer made an observation. No, it’s not, and the offense was the primary reason the Toreros left Brown Field in Indiana with a frustrating 28-21 loss.“I don’t think we have found a quarterback yet who knows how to run ,” said head coach Dale Lindsey. “The passing game really leaves a lot to be desired.
On its next drive, the Toreros covered 80 yards in six plays, the score coming from 34 yards on a trick play. Leading receiver Vance Jefferson took an end around, then pulled up to toss a touchdown to Reed. “We don’t scare anybody with the passing game,” said Lindsey. “We don’t seem to throw the ball downfield with any consistency. We’re more quick, lateral. You’re not going to make a living doing that.”
