Head coach Todd Golden of the San Francisco Dons looks on during the second half against the Murray State Racers.Less than 12 hours after a heartbreaking overtime loss against Murray State, the San Francisco Dons were dealt another blow as head coach Todd Golden is reportedly leaving to be the head coach of the Florida Gators.
Golden led the Dons to their first national tournament appearance since 1998, and their first at-large bid — meaning the team did not have to win a conference tournament to get in — since 1982. They finished the regular season, which began with a 10-game winning streak, at 24-9. Despite hopes of having an actual tournament journey, and star Jamaree Bouyea scoring a career-high 36 points, the celebrations were cut short Thursday after a 92-87 loss to the Racers. A win would have marked the program’s first tournament win since 1978.
