The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, alleges that Nakamura was frequently naked around the team — including on the field — and verbally abused players.
Longtime USF baseball coach Nino Giarratano has been fired, the school announced Sunday after a lawsuit filed Friday by ex-players alleged a pattern of sexualized and abusive behavior from an assistant coach.
The assistant, Troy Nakamura, was fired in January and Giarratano was “officially reprimanded” less than two weeks later. But USF alleges Giarratano allowed Nakamura onto the team’s baseball field last week, more than two months after Nakamura’s termination. The school said it had received allegations in late 2021, leading to an investigation and discipline against both coaches.
“The new allegations in the lawsuit as well as Giarratano’s recent behavior in allowing Nakamura access to baseball operations is extremely concerning,” athletic director Joan McDermott said in a release from the school. “As a result, we have taken actions to make changes in baseball program leadership.”
