Visit to Austin for on-campus event leaves impression on Texas football recruits and commits
AUSTIN, TEXAS - OCTOBER 16: Bijan Robinson #5 of the Texas Longhorns reacts after a touchdown rush in the first quarter against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on October 16, 2021 in Austin, Texas. AUSTIN — The spread was great, bountiful enough to meet the ravenous teenage appetites of several dozen high school recruits undeterred by calorie counts. And the pool’s water felt like manna from heaven, a respite from the midday sun’s searing rays.
Stroh, a three-star senior offensive lineman who committed to Texas in late June, was among a number of Texas commits and recruiting targets invited to campus last week. The visitors included Isidore Newman top-ranked prospect Arch Manning, a pied piper whose June 23 commitment to Texas spurred a feverish recruiting binge for second-year coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff.
“Obviously, I’m not the only person to say this,” Stroh said, “but if you’re gonna play in the SEC, you need big guys. The D-linemen in the SEC are big and you need big guys to match ‘em. Coach Flood believes in that wholeheartedly. Coach Sark believes in that. So they’re bringing in big guys, and I think is gonna develop us into guys who are gonna have a chance to get drafted.”
Texas’ 2023 class, which now includes Stroh, Manning and 19 other seniors, is currently ranked fifth in the nation, per the 247Sports composite rankings. No rational person would ever advocate for running back Bijan Robinson to make a full-time move to wideout. But Texas believes its Heisman-contending junior can make an even greater impact as a receiver this season.
