What was once a routine debate within the committee of the Utah State School Board has transformed into heated discussions surrounding several contentious social issues. jonesnews
When asked about the value of spending 16 hours plowing through the standards, Sarah Reale, a member of the Utah State Board of Education said, "No, I was really frustrated."
Board member Reale, speaking from her perspective and not representing the full board, raised concerns about the new political climate within the board. During a meeting of the Standards and Assessment Committee of the Utah State Board of Education, Reale and Cline had a heated debate, with Reale saying "And I'm telling you that this is about weather. We know that humans impact weather, we've seen it."Neumarker expressed her concern over eliminating discussions about climate change, asserting that it undermines Utah's education of children.
The Standards and Assessment Committee reviewed the proposed standards before they reach the final stage of approval by the school board. However, according to Reale, the board's approach has shifted away from considering recommendations from parents and teachers.
