The Roadrunners wrapped up a second straight 10-22 season Wednesday, losing to Rice in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament.

UTSA coach Steve Henson talks to his team during college basketball action against Rice at the Convocation Center on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023.Responding to speculation around the future of the UTSA men’s basketball program, Roadrunners athletic director Lisa Campos said in a statement Friday that coach Steve Henson will return for an eighth year in 2023-24.

“Coach recognizes that we have high expectations at UTSA for all of our athletic teams and that this year’s men’s basketball season did not meet those expectations,” Campos said. “He is committed to substantive improvement, has already begun a complete evaluation of the program and will make the changes necessary to enable success next season.”Henson is 99-123 through seven years at UTSA, and his teams have never advanced past the quarterfinals of the league tournament.

Henson took over a program that was 5-27 and 3-15 for a last-place finish in Conference USA during the 2015-16 season and led a two-year turnaround, as the 2017-18 group went 20-15 overall and finished in the top half of the league standings.
