Documentary filmmaker Charlie Minn, shown last year talking about his film on the Astroworld Festival tragedy in Houston that killed 10 people.About 20 family members of children who were killed or survived the school shooting at Robb Elementary last May filed into the Forum 6 Theatre in Uvalde on Monday afternoon for a special screening of a documentary that hadIt didn’t change many minds.
A statement issued by Santikos Entertainment spokesman Andrew Brooks said the company “learned that investigations into this tragedy are ongoing,” and since it was still fresh for the families affected, “we have concluded it is inappropriate to show this film at this time.” Most family members who lost their children in the shooting and were interviewed for the film in the summer signed a cease-and-desist warning to Charlie Minn, the documentary filmmaker who created “ROBB-ED.” The letter, sent Monday, advised him they had withdrawn their written and verbal consent to use their voices and images, including in promotions and fundraising.
“A cease and desist letter is for someone that has done something illegal. I have done nothing illegal,” Minn said. “The victims’ families signed up to be interviewed. They did this completely at their own will and discretion. They signed releases afterwards.”
