After struggling for months to get its hands on shots, Australia has risen to the top of the global leaderboard for vaccine supply, on a per capita basis. 9News

Botswana is among the half-dozen to a dozen southern African nations affected by travel bans rushed into place from the United Kingdom, United States, Australia and many other countries. Australia's Department of Health justified its ban, telling 9News.com.au it came at a time when there was "no evidence" of community transmission in other regions.

"Because the next time we want to share this, our ministry might say 'nah, you guys have to be careful, because you know, what happens once a variant of concern is identified in particular'. Dr Gaseitsiwe, like most scientists, says it's too early to tell whether Omicron will definitely prove to be more transmissible and if it will evade vaccines, as some fear.
