It's official: Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley will play Kirk in StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds:

The show will pick up as Kirk is serving as part of the crew onboard the starship USS Enterprise, under Captain Christopher Pike .will focus on well-known characters Pike, Una Chin-Riley / Number One and Spock , as well as the rest of their crew, as they set out to boldly go and explore new worlds in the decade beforeand it places a heavy focus on Pike, as he is called into action by a Starfleet official after spending some time alone in a snow-covered cabin.
He is later shown back in his uniform and gazing out at the stars onboard the Enterprise, while the trailer also teases glimpses at some fascinating and visually-sumptuous new worlds.
