There, among the soft-hued walls, bright outdoor patio and dimly lit corners, is a room dedicated to a centerpiece that carries a legend all its own: the table where Vincent van Gogh may have eaten his final meal.To learn more about the table and its origins, I spoke with the restaurant’s owner, Walter Georis, a Carmel-area stalwart whose five decades in the region include stints as a designer bag maker, cobbler, musician, artist, winemaker and restaurateur.

The clan ended up in the “untouched” Orange County beach town of San Clemente. “My parents bought a little coffee shop,” Georis said. “My mother, German, could cook. And my father from Belgium was able to do the business. They just thought, ‘Hey, let's do this.’”
