Two of the injured riders were participants in last week’s East Bay Bike Party.

Multiple bicyclists have raised an outcry after reporting being apparently targeted by multiple vehicles in separate incidents in three East Bay cities late last week.

“More than a dozen people were targeted and at least seven people were hit. At least two people were hospitalized for serious injuries,” the statement said in part. “The motivation of the attackers is unclear, but they are clearly targeting people on bikes which makes these attacks terroristic in nature.”

Around 8 p.m., several bicyclists riding in Oakland’s Rockridge and Shafter neighborhoods were heading to the bike party’s starting point outside Rockridge BART station when a Hyundai with the same description and a partial matching license plate drove at them. One cyclist riding on Shafter Avenue said he was not hit with a door, but was struck. Footage later recovered from a resident’s doorbell camera captures a car speeding along the street seconds before that collision.

In a statement Monday, Oakland police said officers responded to Boyd Street and Forest Avenue and took a report for a collision, and that a rider refused medical treatment. When asked about other reports of attacks, police said they were unable to provide information, citing a recent ransomware attack against the city. An Emeryville police spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

“There weren’t any reports of attacks during the bike party when we were out and riding,” she added. “It seemed like these things happened right before the ride as people were on their way to the start, or later in the evening as people were going home.”
