Two major bushfires are burning out of control in Victoria as thousands who travelled to the Gippsland region for the long weekend pack up and flee.
A fast-moving grassfire is burning 4.2 kilometres south-west of Loch Sport and authorities are urging anyone in the area to leave now.
The Watch and Act alert for the fire was recently downgraded but residents in Rawson, Walhalla, Erica and surrounds are being asked to stay informed and monitor the conditions. Speaking to Sky News Australia on Sunday, Mr Heffernan explained strong westerly and south westerly winds are sweeping across many of the firegrounds.
