All Victorian government schools will be exempt from paying payroll tax under a major new policy from the Victorian Coalition setting up a showdown with the Allan government over school fees and charges.
Sky News can reveal the Liberals and Nationals will today pledge to remove the payroll tax burden which applies to all schools in the state, both government and non-government.
“Under a Liberals and Nationals Government no school, public or private, will pay payroll tax,” she said. “Let us be very clear: private school fees are a matter for private schools. Every Victorian government school pays this tax,” Mr Carroll told Parliament. “The Department of Education pays payroll tax to the State Revenue Office, which returns it to consolidated revenue,” the report reads.
