Victoria may soon implement stronger measures to protect women from violence amid a national domestic violence crisis.

Tougher laws for men who break family violence orders are on the cards, as well as the tracking of those considered likely to murder a partner or ex-partner and a domestic violence offender registry.

Updated data reveals that Australian women are killed by a man every four days, a staggering increase from the same time last year. Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Lauren Callaway said the 62 Victorian women killed at the hands of violent family members since the state Royal Commission into Family Violence in 2016 was"intolerable".

"We need to see more frontline services on the ground, it's all good and well to have tough penalties but if they’re not enforced, women will continue to be subjected to this type of violence particularly from partners and men that they know," she told sky News Australia. On April 5 the body of 23-year-old Hannah McGuire was found in a burnt-out car at Scarsdale in Victoria. The beloved teacher reached out to police in the weeks before her death for protection from her alleged killer.
