Five regions of Victoria, including the Mallee, Wimmera, Central, North Central and South West, are under total fire bans due to dangerously high temperatures and strong winds. The Country Fire Authority (CFA) issued the bans as a precautionary measure, warning residents and travellers of the heightened fire risk.
Total fire bans have been declared for five regions of Victoria on Monday due to scorching temperatures and strong winds . The Country Fire Authority ( CFA ) has issued the bans for the Mallee, Wimmera, Central, North Central and South West districts, prohibiting any open-air fires. CFA spokesperson, Mr. Boatman, warned of dangerous fire conditions, stating that temperatures will range from 39 degrees Celsius in the south to the mid-40s in the north, accompanied by strengthening northerly winds.
These winds are expected to shift to the south-west in the afternoon, creating a classic fire-weather scenario with hot, dry conditions. Mr. Boatman urged residents in fire-prone areas to activate their bushfire plans and advised travellers to leave early Monday morning. He emphasized the potential for significant traffic congestion due to the anticipated exodus. Aside from the total fire bans, the CFA also stressed the importance of extinguishing campfires completely before leaving any area. They cited concerns from the previous year when numerous unattended campfires were discovered, highlighting the need for responsible fire management practices. Mr. Boatman reiterated the importance of ensuring campfires are thoroughly extinguished with water and cool to the touch before departure
