Local Victorian talent will take the stage during the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, marking the end of a successful campaign where Australia became the first nation to reach 1,000 gold medals.

Baker Boy, the 2019 Young Australian of the Year, will take centre stage in Birmingham early on Tuesday morning with his unique style of rap which he performs in both English and the Indigenous language of Yolnu Matha.

Minister for Commonwealth Games Jacinta Allan on Sunday revealed her excitement to offer the audience in Birmingham a taste of what to expect in Victoria. “Victoria 2026 will be handed the baton and will be ready to invite athletes and spectators from around the world to experience everything our amazing regions have to offer during the Birmingham Closing Ceremony,” Ms Allan said.

Elders from each of the Traditional Owners - Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung , Wadawurrung , Dja Dja Wurrung and Gunaikurnai - will present a carved message stick as an invitation to walk on Country in 2026.“We are proud that the immensely talented Baker Boy and the four Elders are playing such an important part in the Closing Ceremony in Birmingham,” she said.
