The health department says the number of people diagnosed with monkeypox in Victoria is increasing due to local transmission.

"Where we're seeing it now is within the gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men community," Dr Friedman said. "From a public health perspective it's a reasonably sound choice to cancel some events, especially some events that are going to result in very close or intimate contact," Dr Friedman said.
