Victorian Liberal frontbencher Tim Smith says the first term of the Andrew Labor Victorian government has seen an ‘enormous’ 75 per cent decrease in back burning, which he says is putting lives and properties at risk.
Mr Smith told Sky News that Victoria is one of the most fire-prone areas in the world, and that following to the royal commission into the Black Saturday bushfires, back-burning needs to be kept up to date as a matter of public safety. More trust should be put in people who were born and bred in the country, Mr Smith says, as they know more about the bush than ‘city folk’.
