Victoria has recorded 246 new local COVID-19 cases for the second day in a row, as general practitioners warn nobody should be waiting for Pfizer to protect themselves against the virus.
Ninety of the new cases have been linked to existing outbreaks and patients, but it is not yet known how many cases were in isolation for their entire infectious period.Health authorities said 43,858 test results were received and another 32,300 people received a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.Tuesday’s numbers were confirmed later in the morning than usual, with the Department of Health revealing the caseload about 9.45am.
The number of cases ties with Monday, when 246 were recorded marking the highest daily caseload so far this outbreak and the most cases reported in a 24-hour period in more than a year.Health Minister Martin Foley on Monday revealed that of the 92 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Sunday, only one person had been fully vaccinated. That patient was well enough to be discharged on Monday.
The majority of people in hospital sick with COVID-19 had not been vaccinated despite being eligible.People queue to be vaccinated at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton at the weekend.
