Victoria’s COVID-19 cases have surged with the state recording 44,155 new infections and four additional deaths.
There are currently 752 people in hospital in Victoria with 104 receiving intensive care and 23 on a ventilator.
The hospitalisations have surged by 106 from Saturday when 644 people were receiving care for COVID-19. It comes as thousands of people received texts from Melbourne pathology to inform them their COVID tests were “no long suitable” before being asked to isolate and get another test if symptomatic. Many of those who received the concerning text had been waiting for more than seven days for their results with the Department of Health putting the invalid tests down to “temporary backlogs”.
Meanwhile, New South Wales’s daily COVID-19 infections have dropped significantly to 30,062 new cases on Sunday.There are 1927 people in hospital in NSW with COVID-19 with 151 receiving intensive care.
