Victoria has recorded 134 new cases of COVID-19, 123 of which are under investigation. The state has 860 active cases with 41 people in hospital, including seven in intensive care.
Premier Daniel Andrews said the total number of cases linked to the nine public towers was now 75, up from 69 on Tuesday.
A "hard border" must be enforced around Melbourne and Mitchell Shire to protect the rest of the state, Mr Andrews said. "No one is pleased to be in that predicament. But there is enormous benefit across regional Victoria if we can get that job done."Victorian Police Minister Lisa Neville warned anyone caught travelling out of Melbourne without a legitimate reason would be slapped with a $1652 on-the-spot fine.
He said people were still showing "stupidity" and complacency with 15 people fined for having a party in an AirBnb property in Southbank on Sunday.Mr Andrews told ABCthe issue of what would happen after the school holiday extension for Melbourne students was "still being looked at very closely" although it was "more likely rather than less likely" that they would move to remote learning.
