It is the lowest daily number of new cases detected in the state since July 13, when 177 new cases were reported. The state's COVID-19 death toll now stands at 363, which accounts for more than 80 per cent of Australia's coronavirus deaths.Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said yesterday the number of active cases in the state was "coming down by the hundreds each day", a trend he expected would continue as more people recovered and fewer people contracted the virus.
Experts agree the state has now passed the peak of the second wave, but Premier Daniel Andrews has urged Victorians not to become complacent.That's a decline of 17 per cent. "What we're all trying to avoid here is that case numbers come down to a point where we start to think about opening up and what that will look like, only to be unable to do that because the test numbers are too low for us to have clarity about how much virus is out there," Mr Andrews said.
