Melbourne is experiencing a second weekend in a row in lockdown as more information comes to light about a second virus variant, Delta.
Victoria has recorded five new cases of locally acquired COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, with 36,362 test results returned during that time.
The family was confirmed to have the Delta variant, which originated in India, and authorities are not yet sure where or how the family contracted it.The rest of Victoria's outbreak has been associated with the Kappa variant. Both are subtypes of a variant detected in India last October and Delta, in particular, is known to be more transmissible than earlier versions of the COVID-19.
