Health authorities in Victoria have issued another alert over Murray Valley encephalitis after reporting two further cases of the virus and a second death.
Health authorities in the state confirmed on Tuesday there has been two further cases of the virus in regional areas and one death.
"The other new case – a man in his 70s – is currently being treated in hospital. He was potentially exposed to infected mosquitoes in the Shire of Campaspe." One confirmed case of Japanese encephalitis virus has also been reported in Victoria this season and"a number of other suspected cases of these infections" are being investigated.
"We've seen cases of mosquito-borne viruses this season in people visiting the Murray Valley, so we're taking this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of protecting themselves from mosquito bites.
