Victoria's corruption watchdog intends to crackdown on excessive force used by police officers and misconduct within the public sector during the next financial year.

The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission on Thursday released its Annual Plan for the 2023/24 financial year ahead.

As part of its crackdown on Victoria Police, it is seeking to focus on misconduct in high-risk regions, excessive force used by officers, and responses to family violence and predatory behaviour. With respect to the public sector, IBAC will focus on agencies “that are more likely to be vulnerable to corruption” due to the valuable information they have.

IBAC will also target improper influence on decision making within the public sector with a focus on “lobbyists, donors, government aligned stakeholders and third-party facilitators”. Earlier this year IBAC found senior figures within the Andrews government interfered in a contract procurement process to give “favourable treatment” to a Labor aligned union affiliate.
