The Allan government has acknowledged Victoria is 'running out of gas' but is adamant there is enough energy from other sources to meet demand in the state.

"And the reason for that is because of geology - we're running out of gas. That's the sharp reality of this. "We know, of course, when you have a look at ExxonMobil, why are they phasing down Longford gas processing plant? Because offshore, the gas is depleting, and it's going to end in the next few years."

"Think about it in this way, you build enough electricity to meet the time of the year that you need it the most, and that is typically around the summer period when everyone flicks on their air con. "Because we already built it out to meet the summer peak. With the new winter peak for electricity we've already got that built and we've already got enough generation to meet that switchover."
