Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has knocked back a request from Premier Daniel Andrews to allow easier access to disaster relief funding, following last year's devastating flooding in Victoria's north.

that he claims is slowing down flood recovery efforts in the state's north.

But Sky News Australia understands the Prime Minister’s office has refused, as the federal government awaits the outcome of an independent investigation that is due to report back by April next year. The comprehensive evidence required could include the condition of the asset prior to the disaster, which could be in the form of a geotagged photograph, maintenance records, or an inspection report.

Properties were damaged after 100,000 megalitres of water flowed into the Campaspe River from the nearby Lake Eppalock. Picture: Jason Edwards Tracie Kyne – who experienced the devastating floods first hand - formed a committee calling for the government to implement a detailed flood mitigation strategy.

Lake Eppalock is one of Victoria’s largest drinking supply storages and supplies nearby towns and farms.
