Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley says the two new local COVID-19 cases recorded in the state are both children who were in isolation during their infectious periods.

“One is a contact of a positive case that we reported last week linked to the Reservoir household, and one is a contact of the City of Melbourne case that we announced over the weekend,” he said. “We expect to see more known about the close contact’s positives as they more widely move their way through the day 13 quarantine clearance.

“What these figures tell us … is that the system is working, and that the public health settings that we have in place at the moment are appropriate." Mr Foley said the Department of Health has identified approximately 2,000 “active primary close contacts” which remain linked to the outbreaks, but the number of close contacts is on a “downward trajectory”.
