Police also arrested a record number of 26,640 people in the year-long period, the most seen since 2005.described the youth crime spate as 'absolutely frightening'.Deputy Commissioner Regional Operations Neil Paterson said the crime spike can be blamed in part on a surge in family violence. Most of the crimes commited by children in the state involved robbery.
