Victorian Opposition Leader michaelobrienmp says in Victoria 'we are suffering the brunt of government failures'.
Victorian Opposition Leader Michael O'Brien says in Victoria "we are suffering the brunt of government failures". "We are the only state that has a second wave, we are the only state in stage-four lockdown," Mr O'Brien told Sky News host Chris Kenny. "And it's all because Daniel Andrews could not manage hotel quarantine, it's all because he can't manage contact tracing. "The problem we're in at the moment is because of government failures.
" Mr O'Brien said what is needed to be seen "is a pathway out" of the stage-four lockdowns. On Monday Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews told Melbournians it was “too early” to think about escaping lockdown as he pushed back his recovery “roadmap” to the weekend. "We want our lives back, we want our jobs and our businesses back, we want our kids back in schools," Mr O'Brien said. "And it's the government's job to lay out that roadmap".

Victoria's post-pandemic economy is 'worse than expected' | Sky News AustraliaTreasurer Josh Frydenberg says the economic fallout from the coronavirus crisis in Victoria is worse than was previously projected amid the state’s ongoing tough lockdowns. \n\nMr Frydenberg told Sky News approximately 400,000 Victorians were projected to lose their jobs or see their hours reduced to zero.\n\nNew Treasury figures revealed household spending has reduced by about 30 per cent in Victoria but only by around three per cent in other states. \n\nThe figures also indicated 60 per cent of JobKeeper scheme recipients would be Victorians by the end of the year. \n\n“We’ve seen thousands of people added to the unemployment queues in Victoria whereas we’re seeing a recovery in other parts of the country,” he said. \n\n“This is obviously the proof point for what happens when you have blunders like we’ve seen in hotel quarantine, the testing and the tracing in Victoria has not been up to the standard of other states.\n\nThe Treasurer called on states and territories to provide greater funding to add to the stimulus measures provided by the Commonwealth in a bid to boost recovery. \n\nHe said the Commonwealth contributed about 15.8 per cent of GDP in assistance while the other states contributed about 2.4 per cent of gross state product. \n\n“They need to spend more, they know it, whether it’s on infrastructure projects, whether it’s assisting local government or whether it’s in more payroll and land tax relief, they need to step up here and support their communities just as the federal government is,” he said. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia

Victoria's virus cases are 'too high' to reopen state | Sky News AustraliaPremier Daniel Andrews says Victoria’s virus numbers are “too high” to open the state up and “still too high to put forward a definitive plan”.\n\n“We are seeing a fall across each of the key metrics, the strategy is working and that’s a credit to every Victorian who’s made a powerful contribution to that end,” Mr Andrews said.\n\n“But we just have to stay the course on this, at 100, at 94, or 114, whatever around that number we simply could not open up.\n\n“Those numbers would explode ... we would finish up in perhaps an even worse situation than we have been in recent months.”\n\n'Now, there will be a plan. It will come soon. But it will be one that we can be confident of, not something that potentially gets a few people being happier, but then ultimately has to be revised because it didn't mean much when you first announced it.'\n\nVictoria recorded 114 new coronavirus cases and 11 more deaths on Sunday.\n\nMr Andrews confirmed 472 Victorians are in hospital, 25 are in intensive care and 11 are on a ventilator.\n\nSunday’s reporting brings the state’s death toll from the virus to 524 and the national total to 611.\n\n'There are 4226 cases with unknown origin, that is an increase of three since yesterday’s report,” Mr Andrews said.\n\nPremier Andrews also confirmed there are 1,277 active cases in aged care and 406 active cases among healthcare workers.\n\nImage: News Corp Australia

Outsiders inspired government's dismissal of ‘treacherous Belt and Road deal’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Rowan Dean says the Morrison government pulling the plug on “dodgy Dan Andrews and his treacherous Belt and Road dealings” is yet another win for the Outsiders.\n\n“Up until Mike Pompeo appeared on Outsiders, the Australian media and government had ignored what was staring them in the face,” Mr Dean said.\n\nOn May 24th Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was interviewed exclusively by Mr Dean discussing – amongst numerous issues – Victoria’s Belt and Road agreement.\n\n“The interview caused an instant hysterical meltdown from the Left, with the ABC and the Guardian squealing about the diplomatic storm that I had apparently single-handedly created,” Mr Dean said.\n\n“In this case, in keeping with its tried and tested business model, the Guardian had completely missed the real story and instead attacked the messenger.\n\n“The real story was that the Victorian government led by the communist-sympathising Dan Andrews was in the process of selling out Australian taxpayer and business interests to a ruthless totalitarian regime.\n\n“(Mr Andrews) was doing so with zero regard for the profound security consequences for us and for our friends and allies.\n\n“Fast forward exactly three months and hey presto … Prime Minister Scott Morrison has pledged to tear up state agreements with foreign governments if the Commonwealth dubs them against the national interest.”\n\nImage: News Corp Australia
