A young couple in Victoria, Australia, successfully renovates their rundown 1970s house into a modern family home within a tight budget and limited experience.
In a remarkable 30 days, 26-year-old Victorian couple Annelyse and Hayden turned their dilapidated 1970s house into a modern family home . Working with a tight budget of $30,000, the inexperienced couple spent weekends transforming the house and weekdays working their routine 9-5 jobs. “It was horrible,” Annelyse tells 7Life of the run-down, four-bedroom house in the rural Victorian town of Statford.
Leaving the primary structure and the walls in place, the couple planned on freshening up the main spaces of the home with a lick of paint and some modern panelling along the walls. Then they began rebuilding. “I had originally written down that the bathroom would only take us three working days,” Annelyse laughs, adding it actually took 20. “It was a rude awakening.” The couple kept the original layout, which saved them money on plumbing, and installed the new finishes themselves.
