Regional Victorians say there are not enough crossings, signage, and adequate speed zones to protect school students.

Cathy Micich is calling for the speed limit around her grandson's school to be reduced.Several regional Victorian schools are campaigning for speed reductions and improved safety measures on roads outside school grounds, after multiple near misses and traumatic incidents.

Her car was irreparably damaged and she went to hospital in an ambulance, before being released with minor injuries. Accident Research Centre director Professor Stuart Newstead says it is "road safety insanity" to have high speeds around schools."There's no doubt if talking about system safety … you need to lower the speed limit well under 100, and potentially down to 40 kph."
