Victorians are being urged to prepare their properties ahead of an increased fire risk in parts of the state, as authorities move to bolster aerial firefighting efforts.

The simulator includes specialised goggles which the CFA says offer a 280-degree view of the surrounding landscape to test skills"in a safe, controlled environment". A prototype trailer of the simulator Mr Katakouzinos designed and developed as part of a COVID lockdown project he started in his garage in 2020 is also being utilised by volunteers.

Mr Heffernan on Tuesday called on residents to start preparing their properties with parts of the state facing an earlier start to the fire season.
