A 69-year-old man died in hospital two days after the early morning crash between two garbage trucks in a small town 85 kilometres west of Melbourne's CBD.

A 69-year-old garbage truck driver has died in hospital after an early-morning crash between two trucks in a small town west of Melbourne on Monday.One of the garbage truck drivers had been teaching the other man the routePolice said thick fog was hampering visibility as two garbage trucks travelled west along Mt Wallace-Ballark Road at Mount Wallace, near Bacchus Marsh, about 5.30am., resulting in injuries that left the 69-year-old Melton South man in a critical condition.

The man was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Monday with life-threatening injuries and died in hospital on Wednesday evening.
