Multiple Victorian heritage number plates are up for auction to celebrate the Lunar New Year. A total of 12 heritage plates will go under the hammer on February 18 in a live auction held by VicRoads and Heritage Only. Among the plates on offer is one two-digit combination and several three, four and five-digit combinations. Some of the available plates include: Single and double-digit heritage plates are the most valuable, with Victorian number plate 20 selling for a record-breaking $2.
VicRoads registration and licensing services chief executive Giles Thompson said its previous auction in October 2024 attracted more than 300 bidders, with all 10 plates on offer selling above their asking prices. “There is consistent interest in and appeal for heritage plates, especially when it comes to three, four and five-digit combinations due to their rarity,” he said.
