The Victorian Liberal Party is facing what one political analyst has called a 'delicate moment' as MPs vote on whether to reinstate exiled MP Moira Deeming. Liberal MPs will meet at 9am on Friday at Victorian Parliament to decide on Ms Deeming's future in the party's parliamentary wing. The vote, called for by five Victorian Liberal MPs earlier this week, is the culmination of a lengthy fight by Ms Deeming to clear her name and get her political career back on track following a March 2023 rally she led which drew trans rights counter protesters and which was gatecrashed by neo-Nazis. The former high school teacher turned Liberal MP was at first suspended from the party room in the wake of the Let Women Speak demonstration, and then expelled after she threatened to sue party leader John Pesutto for implying she held Nazi sympathies. Ms Deeming proceeded to sue the Victorian opposition leader for defamation in the Federal Court, which ruled emphatically in her favour last week. Federal Court Judge David O'Callaghan found the state opposition leader had defamed her on multiple occasions causing serious harm to her reputation.'I hope they do the right thing,' she said a day before the vote.MPs opposing her readmission are furious that she sued the leader, embarrassing the party further.
