Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has confirmed moves are underway to suspend the CFMEU's construction division from the state Labor branch, as she faces questions over her handling of previous allegations against the powerful union.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan says Labor's national executive has begun the process of suspending the CFMEU 's construction division.
The state branch of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union has been in turmoil following reports in Nine newspapers alleging underworld figures and bikie gang members had infiltrated major construction projects. The premier today said she had written to the chief commissioner of Victoria Police requesting an investigation into allegations of inappropriate and bullying behaviour by union officials.Ms Allan said the Victorian Labor Party would no longer accept donations from the CFMEU's construction division and would introduce tougher anti-bikie laws into parliament next month.
Ms Allan said yesterday she had referred allegations of serious misconduct to Victoria Police and the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission .The chief commissioner of Victoria Police says police investigated the CFMEU last year at the request of Ms Allan, but on that occasion no evidence of criminality was found.
