The man in his 40’s who drowned while swimming at Surfers Paradise beach with his primary school-aged son on Wednesday night has been identified as a Victorian tourist.
Victorian tourist Yong Feng was taking a dip at Surfers Paradise beach outside lifeguard patrol hours when he got into difficulty.
Paramedics worked desperately to Mr Feng, after he was rescued by lifeguards, but he could not be revived. Mr Feng's 11-year-old son swallowed large amounts of water and was rescued by a member of the public.Mr Feng’s wife and another child were treated at the scene for shock.Emergency services were called to Surfers Paradise Boulevard near the Meriton Ocean tower about at about 7pm. Royal Life Saving Chief Executive Officer Justin Scarr said the days between Christmas and New Year’s Day are often the deadliest period for drowning.
