Remarkably, Oppenheimer remains relatively calm after first being startled and then locking eyes with the bear. After a few seconds, the bear runs off, leaving Oppenheimer unharmed.“I was a little frightened because it was right there and I didn’t know what it would do,” Oppenheimer said. He said the bear “seemed puzzled” by the situation.
Perhaps Oppenheimer’s calm reaction comes from the fact that it’s not unusual to see bears in Ashville, USA Today reports.
