At the time she was arrested in October 2022, that figure amounted to an astonishing three per cent of the country's GDP. She illegally controlled the Saigon Joint Stock Commercial Bank between 2012 and 2022, using it to embezzle billions of dollars. Her company was among Vietnam's richest real estate firms, with projects including luxury residential buildings, offices, hotels and shopping centres.
