Director Ben Affleck previously revealed that Michael Jordan asked him to cast Viola Davis as his mother, Deloris Jordan, in 'Air.'

Despite Davis’ surprise at SXSW, Affleck recalled “begging” and persuading her to take the role by telling her about his conversation with the former Chicago Bulls player.“It certainly wasn’t ‘wants you to be in his movie.’ She’s not comfortable with sycophancy or obsequiousness. You can tell it chafes her.
