The airline suspended all Tigerair Australia flights and said its domestic schedule would now be cut by 90 per cent, from last week's 50 per cent reduction. Virgin said it would try and redeploy workers and encourage them to use leave, but leave without pay was inevitable for many. On March 13, the Australian government advised all Australians to reconsider overseas travel, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison introducing a travel ban on March 18.
On March 25, the government put in place a travel ban on Australians leaving Australia, except for certain exemptions. The travel bans left thousands of Australian travellers stranded.
