Offering spectacular views that can stretch as far as 30 miles, Beeston Castle is an ideal location for a family day out.
Beeston Castle, which is owned and managed by English Heritage, has become a hotspot for history enthusiasts and families alike, reports Cheshire Live. The castle was built in the early 1220s by Ranulf, sixth earl of Chester, when he returned from the Crusades.After passing into the Crown's ownership, the castle suffered centuries of neglect before being refortified in the 17th century. It was besieged for many months during the Civil War in 1644 and 1645 and was then partially demolished.
It costs £10 for adults to visit the site, which includes a donation, and £6 for children. Families for two adults and up to three children can get a ticket for £26 whilst families with one adult costs £16. As soon as visitors purchase their tickets, they will then begin a steep climb up the hill, making their way through a wooded area and up to the ruins of the 13th century outer gatehouse. The main feature of the site is the inner gatehouse, which was likely the first part of the structure to be built in the 1220s.
