Steve Price has claimed Voice to Parliament Yes advocates do not understand the views of non-Indigenous Australians.
In an editorial on Sky News Australia’s Credlin program, the veteran journalist and broadcaster said he expected the upcoming referendum would not pass.
“But I can't see Yes getting a majority of the states across the line: the double majority is very tough and is why so few referendums get up in this country.“It's all well and good for those Yes advocates to lecture people about how Indigenous lives will be better come October 15 - which is clearly not going to be the case - but what sort of Australia will we be if this referendum fails, if it goes down.
“Australia, despite the noise we are hearing, is not a racist, I repeat, not a racist country,” Price said. The Sky News guest host cited comments made by Aboriginal author and pro-Voice advocate Jackie Huggins, who on Thursday said Australians would base their votes “on what people think of us”.
