“People are getting increasingly worried that the federal Labor Party is not interested in them and their concerns,” the former Mackellar MP who lost his seat toThe referendum outcome and stiff No votes in heartland Labor seats, including Barton and a slew of others controlled by Labor frontbenchers, including Chris Bowen, Jason Clare, Ed Husic, Tony Burke and Michelle Rowland, were indicative of a party out of step with its supporters, he said.
The Coalition needs to claw back at least 18 seats to form a majority. While some insiders believe that’s wishful thinking for one election cycle, they are in agreement the Coalition has a reasonable chance of securing the 12 to 15 seats required to force Labor into minority.
Outer Sydney seats including ultra-marginal Gilmore, Dobell, Paterson and Hunter will be targeted, along with rusted-on Labor seats McMahon, Greenway and Chifley.
