Like many, I want to see progress on truth, treaty and Voice.But a Voice needs to be backed by real action from this government – underpinned by a commitment to undo the impacts of 200 years of colonisation.

It’s all there in the Bringing Them Home Report, which told the Howard government how to stop the stolen generation in 1997. Yet in 2022, our babies are still being stolen from their mothers’ arms. The latest data fromThis is why the Greens party room has backed Greens leader Adam Bandt and me to begin discussions and negotiations with the government about their proposal for a Voice. I look forward to working with Ms Burney to advance justice for First Nations people.

It concerns me that the Voice proposed by Anthony Albanese would enable the federal government of the day to shape, and inevitably limit, its power.This is why my UNDRIP bill currently before the parliament would create the basis for a successful and fair referendum.
